I read an article this morning about a new TV Tokyo drama that’s going to be coming out in April called Sailor Zombie(セーラーゾンビ). It’s going to have a late Friday night time slot and there are still no definite details about which week it will start airing but it’s going to have a total of 12 episodes – which will run for around 30 minutes each. The drama will also be featuring three of Japanese idol group AKB48’s members: Nana Owada, Rina Kawaei and Juri Takahashi. Read on for some more short details about the storyline.
Sailor Zombie takes place in a world that has been zombie-ized. Most people have already turned into zombies and the drama takes place approximately two months after the epidemic has spread. It tells the story of a high school student named Maiko(played by Nana Owada) who has recently transferred to a new school and has a dream of being an idol. In the drama Maiko is involved in a range of different incidents and through-out all of it becomes good friends with two other students from the school called Mutsumi(Juri Takahashi) and Momoka(Rina Kawaei). One day the girls discover that the zombies that are overpopulating their world will halt their attacks and start dancing to a certain song that is coincidentally playing on the radio. This sends them on a search for the actual song to save the world from the zombie outbreak.
I can’t remember seeing a drama with zombies in it. The closest thing I can think of is High School of the Dead but that’s an anime series and I think I must have watched that 3 years or so ago. I’m not that much of an anime fan. Still I have a feeling that this drama might flop. I’m sure the fact that there are AKB48 members in it will draw some viewers in from the start but they’ll probably need to give them something more to keep them watching. I suppose that music idols and artists appearing in dramas is a regular thing in Japan so maybe there won’t be so much to worry about, we’ll just have to wait and see what April brings.
