I just watched Episode 4 of Boku no Ita Jikan this morning and things are starting to get pretty intense. I’ve really been enjoying this drama and that’s why I’ve kept up writing about it for most of the episodes. I know that it’s pretty popular this season so I’m guessing I’m not the only one thinking the same thing. In this episode someone finds out about Takuto’s disease and Takuto makes a really big decision about his future.
Just like in the last 2 episodes Takuto’s disease is progressively getting worse. He still brushes it off to the people around him when they notice saying that he was told that it’s temporary and that it’d heal in time. The big difference in Episode 4 is that you can tell Takuto is starting to slowly get tired of the negative people he has to interact with on a daily basis like his parents, younger brother and co-workers. He is even starting to get snappy at the people who are positive and encouraging to him.
The issues he has with his parents and brother are still unsolved. While it does seem like Takuto has a slight complex about it the attitude his brother has towards him and other people is almost infuriating. He asks Takuto about his arm and Takuto says that he was told it was temporary when he went and had it looked at. His brother starts making fun of him saying things like “haha I bet you were one of those idiots who googled your symptoms and rushed to the doctors thinking you had some really bad disease like ALS or something”. This really hits a nerve with Takuto, probably because he actually has ALS. He tells his brother to not make jokes about it because there are really people out there that get diagnosed with horrible diseases everyday but his brother just twists it into another “you’re jealous of me” thing and it ends there.
At one point in the episode Takuto’s mother calls him on his cellphone asking him if everything is okay. For a split second he thinks that she’s actually worried about him for once but then she starts blabbering on about the younger brother and he snaps saying “if you’re so worried just ask him personally” and hangs up on her. You can tell that he’s really hit his limit with the neglect he receives from both of his parents and the way they coddle his younger brother so badly. Though I actually felt a little bit sorry for his younger brother in this episode because it started to hint that he has no friends at all. But then again it’s probably all due to the way he talks to and treats people.
Takuto also makes the decision to break up with Megu after talking with her mother alone one night. This is mostly because Megu’s father had a harsh disease too and Megu’s mother had to spend a lot of time taking care of him up until he died. After hearing about this from her mother I think that Takuto decided that he didn’t want to force Megu into the same situation and made the decision there. So during the second half of the episode he calls her to meet and then breaks up with her but won’t give her a real reason for it he just sort of goes for a “my feelings have changed” approach.
Oh and right at the end of the episode Takuto’s senpai from soccer calls him to meet to ask why he broke up with Megu. Takuto tries to avoid talking about it and tries to ride away on his bike but falls over again and all the stuff in his bag goes everywhere. When his senpai goes to pick it up for him he finds some forms that have stuff about the disease on them and he knows about ALS because apparently some famous soccer players have had it before. He asks if there’s anything he can do to help and Takuto smiles, says no, goes to leave and says “I’m sure Megumi could be happy with you”.
I’m not sure what’s going to happen in the next episode but its turned into some kind of love triangle and then there’s also the whole (practically terminal) illness thing as well. I get the feeling that Takuto’s senpai talks big but might not actually have it in him to steal Megu from Takuto, or else I don’t see why he would call Takuto to interrogate him about the break up. I can’t wait for next week to roll around so I can see Episode 5.
