A new drama called Koohiya no Hitobito(珈琲屋の人々), roughly translated into English “The Coffee Store People”, is going to be premiering on the 6th of April this year on NHK. The drama is going to have a 10~10.50pm time slot and is going to feature quite a few big names including Katsunori Takahashi, Tae Kimura, Kana Kurashina and Norito Yashima. But that’s not all! There was a press conference held for the drama this week and Dan Mitsu has been confirmed as another cast member. It’s going to be the first time that she has appeared in an NHK drama. I think the only other drama that I’ve seen her in before was Hanzawa Naoki and her acting wasn’t actually too bad in it.
Koohiya no Hitobito is being hyped as a “human drama”. It’s going to be set in retro-themed cafe in a working-class neighbourhood in Tokyo. The main character of the cafe Kosuke(played by Katsunori Takahashi) is rumoured to make coffee that can ease people’s worries and calm their hearts. Kosuke is also rumoured to have his own dark past which was created by some kind of grave mistake that he made. The drama follows Kosuke’s attempts to heal his customers emotional wounds through good coffee. There aren’t too many other details apart from that the character Tae Kimura is playing is a nurse who has a crush on Kosuke.
Dan Mitsu will be playing the Okami-san of a Oden restaurant in the same shopping district as Kosuke’s coffee shop. She revealed at the press conference that when she was a child there was a shopping district right near her house and that because of it being so close she was able to interact a lot of different people. Dan Mitsu feels that the shopping district’s existence played a big part in her growth to an adult. She also said that she was happy to be given the role of a working class citizen this time around. In Hanzawa Naoki she played the completely different role of a money-hungry man eater. I wonder which role is closer to her actual personality? I don’t know about everyone else but my money is on money-hungry man eater. What do the rest of you guys think?
