Finally in Japan.

Snow in Tokyo

So I’ve been in Japan for about two days now, I’m in Tokyo to be specific. I’m going to be here for a little less than 2 weeks and afterwards I’m going to Osaka to start my exchange. I thought it wouldn’t be very cold, in fact I laughed at my parents when they told me to take gloves. When I was here in December 2010 it wasn’t too bad, sure it was cold but it was mostly just dry and windy – nothing like this.

So, yesterday I really ate my words, it snowed in Tokyo for the first time this winter – around 17 days later than usual. I was walking around without an umbrella for about an hour in it and I couldn’t take it anymore. I had to get back to the hotel and dry off. I haven’t seen snow in about 6 years, it’s not something I’m used to. Even so it was kind of stupid not to realise that once the snow falls on you it melts, and obviously your hair going to wet if snow is melting on it. I almost thought I was going to get sick, one proper day into my journey.

More Snow in ToykoMind you, this all happened in 2 to 4 degree(Celsius) weather, which isn’t the usual for me. Back in my home town 10 degrees was considered a normal winters day. I checked the forecast for the next week and apparently its going to rain for the next four days, with snow included on the fourth day. After that I might get to see some sunlight, maybe… Until then it’s clouds and raindrops so I guess I’m really going to have to re-think my wardrobe. I’ll go shopping again soon, but in the meantime I’ve found something else to keep me from freezing myself to death. Lookout next week for that alcohol post I said I’d write, it’s coming.

  1. I don’t know if I’d like to go in the winter season unless some time was spent snowboarding or something haha. It’s strange that a city so hot in summer could get so cold in winter.
