Hey! Say! JUMP’s Yuto Nakajima confirmed for “Suikyuu Yankees”.

In July this year a new Fuji TV drama with an original theme is going to be coming out called “Suikyuu Yankees” which translates to “Water polo Yankees” in English. It’ll be airing on Saturday nights from 11:10pm and Hey! Say! JUMP’s Yuto Nakajima will be playing the lead part. It’ll also be starring fellow Hey! Say! JUMP member Yuya Takaki and actor Kento Yamazaki. This is going to be Nakajima’s first stand-alone lead role in a regular drama and it’s also going to be the first drama ever created about water polo. Yankee is in the title too, which gives away the fact that the drama is going to be set in a high school of trouble makers.

This is the kind of drama that I’ve been waiting for. I’m not a huge fan of Japanese boy bands but I do like some of the variety shows Kis-My participate in and I’m really excited about the fact that the theme is actually original. The last few drama seasons have been flooded with medical and detective dramas. Sometimes they have their own original plot features but a lot of the time it’s just the same over-done theme being recycled over and over again. Anyway, it’s really refreshing to see something kind of new coming out and some younger stars being given a chance to shine too.
