Shinigami-kun, new Spring drama featuring Satoshi Ohno.

Satoshi Ohno

From April this year there’s going to be another new drama airing on TV Asahi called Shinigami-kun. Shinigami-kun is originally based off a Manga with the same name authored by Koichi Endo who is also well-known for a range of other manga hits including END ZONE and Rift Rain. This is the first time that one of Endo’s manga works been turned into a drama series. There was also new information this week that Arashi’s Satoshi Ohno has been selected to play the lead role in the drama. The last regular drama Satoshi Ono appeared in was called “Uta no Onii-san” which aired 5 years ago on the same network.

Shinigami-kun is a story that shows the relationship between the souls’ of dead people and the reapers that carry them over to the next world. The main character, “Shinigami-kun”, is known as Reaper Number 413 to his colleagues. He’s fairly new to the death god business so there are some times when his actions break the reaper code and that tends to get him into trouble with his superiors. His duties mostly involve telling people that they’re dead or going to die and trying to convince people not to commit suicide. Shinigami-kun dresses in a black suit and looks like he’s around his early 30’s but nothing else is known about him, not even his real name.

I think Satoshi Ohno will be good for this role if they’re aiming for a character that looks around 30 years old. That being said Ohno is a good 30 while I’m sure there are a lot of other people around who are 30 but look a lot older. I was kind of surprised reading that this is his first regular drama appearance in 5 years considering how many Arashi appearances there are in other dramas lately. Shinigami-kun will be airing on Friday nights from 11:15pm to 12:15am in April. There is still no further details about exact dates.

  1. Not true! Ohno has starred in Kagi no Kakatta Heya since then (2012). True, he was in other roles, but I’m not sure if they were complete series or specials. Speaking of Kagi no Kakatta Heya, I just loved it. In that drama, he plays an expressionless locksmith who gets involved in solving locked room murder cases. I was quite happy when a special came out this year. I wonder if KnKH aired on a different network, hence the comment about Uta no Onii-san being the last drama he has been in…I enjoyed that one too.

Regarding Shinigami-kun, I think he would be great for the role too. The drama sounds like it has elements similar to Shinigami no Ballad…

    • Ah yeah you’re right it was meant to mean for the actual network itself, not regulars on all networks. I’ll fix that up. I remember that drama! I didn’t fall in love with it though, I think I only made it to episode two but I could barely understand Japanese at the time. I’m not sure what network it aired on though.

Arashi is like set for life. I can imagine them still being popular well into their 40s like L’arc En Ciel.

  2. Yay! I’m so happy for this drama because my precious riida Ohno Satoshi will act in it. I love all Arashi members and their acting always makes my day. And i am also looking forward to ninomiya kazunari’s drama this spring, too. Nino is such an amazing actor. Everybody should watch ”Letters from Iwo Jima”, His acting in that movie is out of this world.

    • Yeah I’m looking forward to both of those dramas for next season and Smoking Gun too aha. So much to look forward to this season. I’ve seen Letters of Iwo Jima before but I barely remember it maybe I should check it out again.
