This week it was announced that there is going to be a drama, movie and anime based on the hit manga Nobunaga Concerto(also known as Nobunaga Kyousoukyoku). Well-known Japanese actor Shun Oguri is going to be starring in both live-action works as the lead role of Oda Nobunaga: a normal high school student who one day time-slips back into the warring era of Japan and is asked by the real Oda Nobunaga, who looks just like him, to trade places with him. Oguri commented that he had always really wanted to play Oda Nobunaga as a role, and while playing the role in Nobunaga Concerto was slightly different from what he had envisioned that he was still “very excited” about it. He did also say that he was a little concerned about playing a character who is still in high school and hopes that people close to his age are cast for any high school scenes that are planned.
I haven’t read the original work but the story sounds very interesting. I do agree with what Oguri was saying about playing a high school role though, I think the last time I saw him play a high school kid was in the Crows Zero movie franchise and that was quite awhile ago. Then again Jun Matsumoto managed to play a character in their mid to early 20s in Shitsuren Chocolatier pretty well last season, and if he can still pull that off I’m pretty sure Shun Oguri will be able to do this series justice too. If you haven’t watched a new drama from this season called BORDER yet I really suggest you too, Oguri is playing the lead role in it as well and I’m doing the subtitles for it at the moment. I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes open for any new news about this series and pretty much any new Oguri news in general.
