Tokyo Guard Center.

Tokyo Guard Center

I think this might possibly be the last new drama for next season that there is to write about. I know there are still some dramas continuing onto their second season in Spring I haven’t talked about yet, but I’m pretty sure this is the last one that’s brand new. Anyway it’s called Tokyo Guard Center and it’s going to be airing on the channel “Dlife” which I hadn’t heard of until today when I started researching about this drama. From what I’ve read it looks like Tokyo Guard Center is completely original, meaning that it isn’t based off a manga, cartoon or novel. The script was written by Tetsuya Ooishi who also did the scripts for the live-action versions of Death Note and BECK. Tokyo Guard Center will be airing every Thursday night from the 10th of next month from 11pm. Toshiro Yanagiba will be playing the lead role and Aoi Nakamura, Rin Takanashi, Junsuke Kubozuka, Atsushi Tsutsumishita, Kazue Ito and Takehito Ono have also been confirmed on cast.

So just what exactly is Tokyo Guard Center about? Well you know all those security systems that people set up in their houses or the ones that are installed in apartment complexes? This is a story about the watchmen/women that have to respond to the emergency calls from them and monitor the areas for any suspicious activity. The blurb I read about the drama on its official website said that the incidents the guard center deal with will range from small pranks to bigger, more serious incidents. Yanagiba’s character, Shinjitsu Tokura, is the head of the guard center who is respected and well-liked by his co-workers but also has an air-headed/comical side. He is also tending to some kind of “special mission” than no one else at the guard center knows any details about. Nakamura, Takanashi, Kubozuka, Tsutsumishita and Ito’s characters also confirmed to be watch people at the guard center.

I have a feeling that this drama isn’t going to be huge. Like I said I’d never heard of Dlife until I read more about this drama this morning. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though. One of the dramas I really like from this season Yoru no Sensei isn’t extremely popular either but that doesn’t mean that it’s a bad drama or the actors in it aren’t good. I was pretty happy to see that Toshiro Yanagiba will be playing the lead role, it brings back memories of watching CODE BLUE which was probably the last Japanese drama I ever watched with English subtitles. Yanagiba probably isn’t what you would consider an A Grade star but I think that from the acting that I’ve seen him do he deserves a chance in the spotlight, and he’s appeared in countless other dramas too. I can’t wait to see what he will bring to the table in this new series.

  1. Although not that similar, reading the description for this drama reminded me of ROMES. Instead of houses, it was an airport that had the security system.

    Sounds interesting. 🙂
